Information Law

The Institute for Information Law (IViR) studies the legal aspects of information production, storage and distribution. Information is an important aspect of modern society. In addition to playing a key role in the daily lives of citizens, it also represents a major economic interest. The information industry is big business; knowledge is a valuable commodity.

The research programme will focus on two central questions. Which fundamental rights shape the information process? This question revolves around the issues of freedom of communication, privacy and intellectual property rights. Which rules govern the information market? The focus here is on the study of media law, postal and telecommunications law and competition law. These social issues evoke fundamental legal questions of great political relevance. The researchers regularly take part in the public debate.
