Research

The University of Amsterdam (UvA) is a top-quality research university. To sustain and build on this position, the UvA is now designating 15 fields in which it wishes to actively foster further development. These so-called research priority areas represent the very best that the UvA has to offer - areas in which the University is a leader worldwide.
The following priority areas have been designated at the Amsterdam Law School.

Information Law

The research programme is focused on two central questions. Which fundamental rights shape the information process? Which rules govern the information market?

The International Rule of Law

The rule of law requires that public authorities and citizens must abide by the law. However, the traditional protection of the rule of law as it applies within states is no longer sufficient. In an internationalised world, traditional safeguards may be lost - or at least altered. The rule of law needs to adjust to a globalized world. This problem lies at the heart of the current research effort.

Private and Public European Law

The Private and Public European law priority area combines three aspects of the Europeanisation of the legal system.
