On 21 May, a seminar session with Dr. Vibeke Lehmann Nielsen will be held, entitled "Business Compliance - Motivation and Capacity. Learnings from an Australian research project." This Seminar is organized by the UvA Amsterdam Center for Law & Economics (ACLE) and the VU Department of Criminal Law Criminology.

15 May 2012 - Chinese Film Screening - Warriors of Qiugang

On May 15th, 20.00-22.00, CREA and the NCLC are screening the Chinese film "Warriors of Qiugang." This showing is followed by a discussion chaired by Kathinka Fürst, Research Fellow at the Netherlands China Law Centre, University of Amsterdam.

8 May 2012 - Chinese Film Screening - Ai Weiwei: Without Fear or Favour

Tonight, May 8th, 20.00-22.00, CREA and the NCLC are screening the Chinese film "Ai Weiwei: without Fear or Favour". This showing is followed by a discussion chaired by Dr. Lena Scheen, Leiden University lecturer of China Studies.

Seminar program change

Please be informed that the seminar of 15 May will be cancelled and postponed to 19 June. Prof. Dr. Frank Pieke's seminar entitled "The Good Communist" will be held on June 19th, replacing the originally scheduled seminar by Prof. Dr. Benjamin van Rooij.

Chinese Film Screenings

On May 8th, 15th and 22nd, CREA and the NCLC are screening three Chinese films about access to justice. The works all portray how Chinese citizens deal with injustice. They allow us a view into Chinese state-society relations from below, following the perspective of ordinary citizens who somehow seek to cope with grievances and injustice. The films cover some of China's most important contemporary popular grievances: political rights, pollution and land takings...
