The Netherlands China Law Centre

荷中法律研究中心

The Netherlands China Law Centre (NCLC) offers expertise about the formation and functioning of law and legal institutions in China. In particular it focuses on the role law can play in regulating economic behaviour and balancing public and private interests. The centre aims to fulfill a bridge function between the Netherlands and China, between academia and practice, and between law and the social sciences.

The Netherlands China Law Centre is the first academic centre specializing in the study of Chinese law in the Netherlands. It has been established at the Amsterdam Law School, University of Amsterdam, following academic research and cooperation between the Netherlands and China of over a decade and continuing on a Dutch academic tradition of more than a century.

NCLC Chinese Film Screenings

(In)Justice in China  -  Three Chinese Films

Spring 2012, CREA and the NCLC are screening three Chinese films about access to justice. The works all portray how Chinese citizens deal with injustice. They allow us a view into Chinese state-society relations from below, following the perspective of ordinary citizens who somehow seek to cope with grievances and injustice. The films cover some of China's most important contemporary popular grievances: political rights, pollution and land takings. Citizens portrayed here use different avenues to deal with injustice, ranging from the court room to the streets and to cyber space. The productions show both despair and hope, and portray the nuanced complexities of justice in the world's most important emerging market and largest and fastest growing legal system. Each showing is followed by a discussion chaired by a leading expert on the issue portrayed.

Location:    CREA, UvA
Dates: Tuesdays 8, 15, 22 May
Time: 20.00 - 22.00
