On 28 January 2009 the CSECL organised a symposium about the European Commission's proposal for a Directive on Consumer Rights.

The key issue of  this symposium was the question if the directive proposal is a good basis for the desired harmonisation of the consumer law and what will be the consequences for the Netherlands of the (unchanged) introduction of the directive. Are consumers sufficiently be protected in the directive proposal? Does the directive proposal take care of a more coherent consumer acquis? Does the revision of the acquis have to be limited to consumers, or should also small entrepreneurs be protected under certain conditions? And what are the consequences for the general contract law?
Renowned speakers gave their opinion on the draft Directive and its effects on Dutch consumer law and contract law. Their papers have been published in Het voorstel voor een Europese richtlijn consumentenrechten. Een Nederlands perspectief.
