The Amsterdam Circle for Law & Language

A Meeting Point in Law and Language

Introduction

The Amsterdam Circle for Law & Language (ACLL) is an initiative of four legal scholars from the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and the Free University in Amsterdam (VU).

The ACLL was founded in 2007. The objective was to create a platform and a meeting point for those who are interested in the methodological and social relations between law and language.

To that end the Circle explores and aims to offer an exchange of ideas in the fields of, for example, legal theory, philosophy of language, argumentation theory, forensic linguistics and information & technology.

Activities ACLL

The ACLL organizes frequent lectures and presentations by leading thinkers in the field of law and language. In addition it will hold 'book clubs', in which a small group of legal scholars and top students will scrutinize and debate important works that involve or relate to law and language. In 2009 also a symposion will be organized.

For past and upcoming activities of the ACLL, see under 'Activities'.
